My life used to be normal. Family, friends, graduated from a good college, decades in business development, active social life - pretty standard stuff. Then it happened, the Big Bad, an abusive relationship that broke apart my normal life and tried to break me.

Instead, it broke my heart wide open in the best way possible. My journey into darkness and back made me into a beacon of light, that I may light the way for others. My pain turned me into a seeker, to deeply understand myself and find a way out to the other side of my pain. Little did I know the journey would give me tools to transcend my limits, break free of my limiting beliefs, and live authentically.

Ever the data and science geek, I dove deep in both scientifically-proven and spiritual healing modalities on my hero’s journey through trauma, PTSD, and Kundalini awakening. The process gifted me with a purpose and calling, to bring people back to themselves, to realize that they are powerful and capable of so much more, and help them find the thing that they were perfectly created to do. We all have a purpose and calling that is greater than ourselves, but few have ever found it because most of us don’t know who we are.

1. What was your biggest takeaway from Lumia's coach training program?

Realizing that, truly, we aren’t meant to do life alone.

I had been a client of John Kim’s (The Angry Therapist, co-founder of Lumia) years ago after a nearly fatal abusive relationship. Two years of trauma therapy didn’t work for me, but two and a half months of coaching sessions several times a week did. Though much of our work together was included in the coach training program, being able to step outside of the work and see it through different eyes with a group gave it new meaning.

Having the support of a community underlined the importance of being seen, heard, understood, and accepted, and how rare it is to find a community like Lumia's that does that.

It seems obvious but we tend to think we’re the only ones who have gone through something hard. We think no one will understand us or we think there’s no way to change our situation, so we tend to shut down and shame ourselves. So many of us keep our truth locked inside to maintain appearances and appear strong, but our superpower is found in our truth. True strength is being honest and vulnerable about what’s true for you.  We can learn to love ourselves enough to trust that we are worthy of receiving support and love from others. We were NEVER meant to do life alone.

2. How did you transform personally during the program?

The biggest change was fully owning my story. My life hasn’t been easy and my story’s a hard one for people to hear; it would be easier to hide it.

Though small groups of friends or family knew it, I don’t share it with others. It’s tough when you’ve shared your story with people you’ve trusted and they didn’t understand you, let alone put it out there for social media.  I realized I was still hiding and my gifts weren’t gifts if I wasn’t willing to share them. Helping people was more important than my fears and being comfortable so I decided to own my story and share it.  Now I stand on my story and not in it, so people can see that they can take off their mask too.

3.  How are you practicing coaching today?

I’m a natural-born shaman through ancestral lineage, so shamanic healing has become the core of my practice. Coaching is woven throughout my work, whether its during intake, as we process the session, or in sharing tools and tactics with my clients. Before I was ever intuitive, I was a hardcore science and data geek with an interest in neuropsychology. My work combines the scientific and spiritual worlds because I’ve tried a lot of different modalities and this gave me the most powerful results; the shifts I’ve had in the past year would have taken me years to work through otherwise.

When we work with all aspects of ourselves – mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual – true transformation and healing are possible. We are multifaceted beings and by working with the energy and our spiritual body first, it softens the soil for changes in the mental, physical, and emotional bodies with more ease, grace, and speed.

Using shamanic techniques, I find the crux of my clients’ wounds, both known and unknown, and their unique healing protocols. I share practical coaching and neuropsychology tools with my clients to create change in their physical, mental, and emotional bodies. With these tools, they have agency to create a better regulate their nervous system and thought processes, to support their growth and feel empowered in the process.

I'm doing 1:1 sessions both online and in person at a local yoga studio where I have my office. I also lead workshops and group shamanic journey meditations, have group coaching online, and am starting to book retreats. It's been exciting to partner with different people to find different ways to serve their community. As a POC it's important to me for this work to be accessible, to redress social inequities and empower all people. Wellness and healing is for all of us.

4. From a business perspective: What did you gain from completing the program?

Community. I’d been in corporate business development for years prior and one of the issues with sales people is feeling isolated and unsupported when they don’t have frequent contact with the home office.

The same thing happens with entrepreneurs and if you’ve never been in business or sales before, you can feel extremely isolated and unsure of what to do next. Having a community of other people who are doing the same thing helps you bounce ideas off one another, find inspiration, and is a source of strength on tough days when you feel like giving up. The Lumia family is very special, we truly care about and deeply respect one another.

When starting a business there’s great power in community. Other people who aren’t entrepreneurs can’t relate to what we go through and can seed our dreams with their doubts; here we lift each other up and help each other shine. We believe in one another and sometimes when its hard to take another step in your business, that belief can help you find your way.

5. What would you say to someone who’s interested in taking the intensive?

Do it. Now. Do not pass go.

Whether you want to become a life coach, add to your skill set at work, or to improve your relationship with yourself and others, with this work you will create shifts and change. Plus you get to be part of a super awesome community, you have support and unconditional love from your Lumia family, we do dope shit together like SXSW, and – bonus – you help to make the world a better place one person at a time. Does it get any better than that???

6.  Anything else you’d like to mention about yourself or the program?

Nobody would have ever thought I’d be where I am today, even myself. I should be dead and, in a way, I was. Before I worked with John years ago, I thought life would always be miserable. I thought I’d have to keep dying everyday by living a life for someone else. Most people would think my life wasn’t miserable, that it was OK because I had a good poker face and did all the right things, checked all the right boxes, but we have shitty standards for our quality of life. That wasn’t living.

We accept just OK when life is a gift and it’s meant to be amazing. We are meant to be who we are and to do what we’re meant to do, just as Whitney Houston was born to sing and Michael Phelps was born to swim. When we do what we are born to do, we do it with ease because we were made for it. When we fulfill our purpose and calling, we are fulfilled, prosperous, and our lives are full of grace.

Trust, I didn’t believe it was possible either, it had to be a dream for someone else; now I know better. When we do the Great Work to be free of our fears and limiting beliefs, instead of those things holding us back we can make anything happen. I’m proof that when you do the work so you can step into what you’re meant to do without limitations, everything in your life gets better and anything can happen. Anything. I’ve seen it happen over and over again, it’s what I did for myself and what I help people do too. If I can make my life into a miracle, so can you. Believe it.
